What Does Achievement Look Like for You?
If you are always focused on the next success, you will never have lasting happiness.
Those moments are fleeting. Yes, you hit your sales goal, you pulled off a perfect red carpet event, you delivered 20% more business than last quarter. If you are reliant on these ‘hits’, once they happen, you’ll have a let down and have to move on to the next big win in order to feel ok.
This isn’t sustainable. And it sets you up to have to ‘one up’ each new goal. Careers are not linear and expecting continual ascension is not realistic.
You have to fall in love with the normalcy of your job. Meaning that in order to have Sustained Success in your career, you have to enjoy the process of your day to day work. It’s about enjoying what you have and where you are, while you are pursuing your goals. If you can focus on what you are learning, how you are interacting with people and how you are contributing as you move a project along, you will be much happier at work.
I don’t think you took the job primarily for the wins. It was something in the job description of your responsibilities that captured your interest. Refocus on the ‘why’ - why you took the job in the first place and what you enjoyed in your first months or year in the job. And what you were learning and doing before you reached your first big success.
Find those moments every day.
